The Course: |
|
This is the course that dare not speak its name in any British art school today, a comprehensive guide to the arcane secrets of painting in oil. Probably the most versatile, robust and mysterious of media, its language is deeply expressive with a powerful physical presence and immense vocabulary that can appear daunting to the beginner. This course will guide you through the technical processes of oil painting, exploring the many possibilities of the medium, through a series of exercises tailor-made for those wishing to learn the fundamental practical concepts necessary for successful painting at any level.
Students will have the opportunity to:
- Be introduced to surfaces and tools
- Learn about the characteristics of oil colour
- Familiarise themselves with the varying pigments and binders
- Learn about mediums and how to manipulate recipes to get the effect you desire
- Experiment with a huge spectrum of application techniques including wet-on-wet, glazing, scumbling, scouring into paint, using alternatives to brushes.
Students will be encouraged to apply the lessons learned in practical exercises to a painting which will introduce those less experienced to the painting process: from selecting a palette, to 'laying-in', to finally developing a composition to its completion. |
